DESPITE Saturday's adverse weather conditions, Academy cricketers were involved in some action at the weekend.
A start was made at Shaw's Bridge against Cooke Collegians in a Division 1 Section 3 encounter, but play was abandoned because of rain after nineteen overs.
Academy skipper, Gerry Sloan, was probably more pleased than his opposite number with the
abandonment, the city side having got off to a blistering start at almost five an over. When the umpires called it a day Cooke collegians were nicely placed at 91 for 1, David Spence having been the successful visiting bowler.
Commenting secretary, Jack Quinn, said, "With the weather deteriorating quickly it soon became quite obvious that there would be an early end to proceedings at Shaw's Bridge. This postponement and this weekend's Junior Cup semi-final, means that we will have to arrange league fixtures against Collegians and Templepatrick. In order to avoid a possible backlog of fixtures in September, I will be trying to get these matches fitted in as soon as possible, weather permitting of course," ended Jack.
On Saturday afternoon Academy will be off to Gilford for the Junior Cup semi-final, where they will be favourites to repeat a recent win against Millpark.
