SOUND batting by David Gibson and Jordan Carlisle steered Templepatrick Under 13s to a comprehensive victory against Carrick, in their opening East Antrim League fixture.
David seemed to be heading confidently towards a maiden half century until he was out on 47, and it was his match-winning partnership with Jordan Carlisle who contributed a significant 36, that ended Carrick's hopes.
Opting to bat first at The Cl
oughan, the 'Patrick lads posted 130 for the loss of four wickets in their twenty overs - an excellent score at this age level - and the visitors were never in the hunt.
Concentrating on accuracy, the home bowlers made it difficult for the batsmen, so wickets continued to tumble to Aaron Cairns, Daniel McFadden, Jordan Carlisle and David Gibson, as Carrick were bundled out for only 60.
Boosted by this success the Templepatrick lads are looking forward to locking horns with the same opponents again this week, in the semi-final of the NCU Banoge Cup at the same venue, after having scored an impressive win against Instonians at the quarter-final stage.
Commenting head coach Andy McCrea said, "Our comprehensive coaching set-up, which is considered to be one of the best in Northern Cricket Union circles, ensures that we have a number of very promising young cricketers coming through.
"Several of our current 1st XI players are home produced, and with another batch of skilful players emerging, I am confident that we will have a promotion chasing senior side in the not too distant future.
"Once again we will be having our popular summer coaching scheme for primary school children during July and August at The Cloughan. Qualified coaches will be there on Tuesdays from three o'clock until five o'clock, but places will be limited, so booking will be essential. Anyone interested should contact me at 07811737047,"
ended Andy.
Templepatrick Cricket Club will be receiving a grant for the provision of an artificial practice area at The Cloughan, but some fund-raising will be required, and will start with a Beer Testing Night at Ballyclare Rugby Club headquarters at The Cloughan on Saturday evening 28th June, from eight o'clock onwards. Tickets are not required for this event, but anyone requiring further details should contact Andy McCrea at the number above.
