A CENTURY by Cregagh professional Jarvis put paid to Templepatrick's hopes of success at Gibson Park on Saturday afternoon.
The decision to take first knock proved to be a good one when the city side put a massive 270 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets, and in reply Artie Campbell's lads could muster only 185.
The Cregagh innings was dominated by Jarvis,
whose 118 included 8x6s and 12x4s, and ruined most of the bowlers' figures. University student Gareth Boyd will remember this match; he had a haul of 5 for 48 off seven, with his prize scalp being that of Jarvis who was trapped leg before.
Jarvis was well supported by Walker who was at the crease for thirty-six overs while accumulating only 42. His was a supporting role, taking the odd single to put the big hitting professional back on strike.Other significant contributions came from Kerr with 27 and Javed with 23.
Gareth Boyd was the dominant bowler, with Robert Smith the only other one to have success with 1 for 29 off ten - excellent figures for the left arm spinner bearing in mind the opposition.
Templepatrick were quite sharp in the field, and Keith Wilson and Robert Smith each had a direct hit for a run-out.
Templepatrick's reply petered out after forty-one overs, eighty-five runs short. James Jackson's top score of 44 included five boundaries, and he received support from John Busby (33), Artie Campbell (31) and Keith Wilson (19).
Commenting Artie Campbell said, " This was a one man show with Jarvis dominating proceedings. He accumulated maximums off any loose deliveries, but he also punished good balls as well by hitting straight through the line.
"We needed a solid start, but Colin Morrow, and Neil Reynolds were back in the pavilion with only nineteen runs on the board. Ricky Greer then departed in the eighth over with the score on thirty-two, and that brought James Jackson in to partner me, and we fashioned a stand of fifty plus.
"When I departed Keith and John Busby added in excess of forty runs, but we were always behind the asking rate, and got no points from this game.
"Despite this reverse we did not lose ground in the promotion stakes in Division 1 Section 3, owing to our two main rivals, Larne and Dunmurry also losing to Millpark and Academy respectively.
"We have rearranged matches against Millpark on Sunday 17th and Dungannon on Sunday 31st, and that leaves only the BISC fixture outstanding. With next weekend being a closed shop because of the Twenty20 tournament, our next outing will be on Saturday 9th when we take on Academy in the final of the Junior Cup," concluded Artie.
