The newly formed Jordanstown Jaguars took part in their first ever rugby Easter sports camp at the University of Ulster this week.
Twenty 12 and 13-year-olds took part in the sporting day, which is the first in a serious of new rugby initiatives being rolled out at the University.
The Jaguars Easter camp, which took place in the University’s new multi-million pound High Perf
ormance Centre (HPC), will now lead into a seven-week Rugby School beginning at the start of April.
If this wasn’t enough rugby for the HPC, the next step will see the Rugby School holding a week long summer camp in August.
The initial age group bracket is from 12-13, with 13-14 being added for the rugby school. By the summer the aim is to add the age groups up to 15-17.
The Children get top-level coaching on many elements involved in the game including speed, agility, balance, co-ordination, passing, kicking, evasion, rucking, and fun games.
Jaguars coach Michael Orchin-McKeever said: “The focus of the Jaguars is to teach and coach players on skills as opposed to being a winning team. We want to develop competent rugby players at the school.
“The new facilities at the University’s High Performance Centre are sure to impress the children and enable them to use the best facilities. Lucozade and the Ulster Sports Academy are great followers and supporters of Jaguars rugby and are looking forward to the arrival of new faces and keen rugby players to the University.”
