FOLLOWING last weekend's home defeat by Carrick Rangers, Ballyclare Comrades will be redoubling their efforts on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Coagh United.
Hagan Park is not regarded as a happy hunting ground for points, but since losing Jamie Tumilty to Dungannon Swifts during the January transfer window, the County Derry side has been slipping down the table.
Recent defeats by Banbridge Town, Dundela and Loughgall must have dented morale, but Jamesie Kirk will be making sure that there is no complacency in the ranks when the teams lock horns in a vital First Division encounter.
"Losing at home to Carrick Rangers was a big blow to our championship aspirations, so it is important that we return to winning ways against Coagh United," stated Jamesie. "I know that they have not been winning lately, but losing to top teams like Loughgall and Dundela would not be regarded as a disaster for any team.
"Jamie Tumilty was their talisman, and the loss of such a talented player must have an adverse effect, but we will not be fooled. I will make sure that the lads are well motivated, with three points the target.
"Thankfully we have no injuries, but Joe McRoberts has to sit out a one match suspension, so the panel is likely to be along the usual lines," ended Jamesie
Meanwhile club officials are delighted to learn that four players are in line for Northern Ireland Junior International caps. Paul Caldwell, Michael Smith and Kyle Agnew have already played for the Ulster Eastern side that drew 2-2 with their Western counterparts, and since then Mark Patterson has been drafted in for the return fixture by manager Harry McConkey.
Following the completion of these two trials the team will be selected to take part in the UEFA Regions Cup, a competition in which the Northern Ireland lads did well last season.
Elsewhere Comrades senior coach and Youth Development Officer, Gordon Chambers, has been nominated for the Newtownabbey Borough Council's Coach of the Year for 2007 award, while Ballyclare Comrades Football Club is in the running for the Team of the Year award after having won the Second Division title without conceding a goal in any of their final eight fixtures.
Everyone associated with the Dixon Park outfit extend best wishes to all concerned.
