TEN year old Jay McCrum from Newtownabbey won the Junior class at the sunsoaked May Day NIE motocross championship at Desertmartin International Motocross Park.
Following a disappointing 5th place result in round four of the Irish championship held in Cork on Saturday the Ulster Champ was determined to set the standard back on home ground.
Having set the pace in morning qualifying Jay was confident going into race one which proved to be close battle with rivals George Thomas and Drogheda's Aaron Piper. With only a fraction of a second separating the three it was to be Jay's race as Thomas and Piper crashed out on lap 5.
In Race two, Jay and Piper broke away from the pack but it was to be Piper's race as Jay crashed on the last corner before remounting to take second place. Jay knew he had to win the final race to secure the overall victory. Despite the track conditions the Jordanstown ace set the fastest lap of the day on the final lap, blasting his Arco KTM to the finish line with only half a second spare over challenger Piper to secure an overall win.
