Gareth Maybin from Ballyclare Golf Club, who has been a professional for the past four years, had a successful three days last weekend in the USA.
He returned to the southern states to play in the Ocala Open which is part of the Florida professional tour.

In the first round Maybin had an excellent six under par score of 66 to be placed ninth. On the second day he repeated this score and had moved up to second place.

For the last round he was three under par with 69 to finish 15 under overall which left him joint first with two American professionals. This led to a three way play off, but one of the locals, Travis Hampshire, had a birdie to be the overall winner. Maybin was joint second and as a result won 10,000 US dollars.

The Ballyclare golfer, a past pupil of Larne Grammar School, will be returning to play in the European Challenge Tour this summer which starts next month.
