TEMPLEPATRICK toppled league leaders Larne, thanks mainly to an excellent first wicket partnership between Colin Morrow and Richard Greer.
The seventy-seven contributed by this pair laid the foundation for a match-winning total of 189, while the seasiders could muster only 119 in reply.
With Neil Reynolds, Robert Smith and skipper Artie Campbell unavailable, John Busby assumed the duties of captain, but lost his first assignment when his opposite number won the toss and decided to bowl at The Cloughan.
This option misfired when the home side got off to a cracking start, with Colin Morrow (47) and Ricky Greer (41) chalking up 77 before being separated. Both contributed several boundaries as the Larne attack toiled, and after Morrow departed, John McComb (27) and Greer advanced the tally to 105 before Larne claimed their second victim.
Chris Busby seemed set to record the only half century of the innings until he fell at 47, when the innings closed at 189 in 49.4 overs.
Larne got off to a miserable start with both openers back in the pavilion with the total still in single figures. James Jackson started the rot when he bowled Chris Keenan with the second ball of the innings, and in the fourth over his opening partner, Baxter, was trapped lbw by teenager Josh Dailly.
Larne were in further trouble when Jackson struck again to take out Hodge, and then spinner Keith Wilson tied up an end, when he bowled ten overs and took three wickets, while conceding a miserly ten runs.
Even with half the side out, Larne still managed to keep the scoring rate at about four an over, but their hopes now rested mainly on Hill, and the home players rejoiced when he fell to young Dailly.
Dempsey and Ramsey staged a late mini recovery, but it was Templepatrick's day when they triumphed by seventy runs.
Reflecting on the game Templepatrick head coach, Andy McCrea, said, "This was Larne's second league defeat of the season, so our lads were rather chuffed, especially when they had to make three changes for this rearranged Division 1 Section 3 fixture.
"Our opening partnership was the key to success. Colin Morrow played some classy shots, and included several boundaries in his joint top score of forty-seven. Ricky Greer, who seems to have recovered perfectly from his serious injury, also produced some fluent strokes in his forty-one, and when John McComb continued the good work we had three figures on the scoreboard with only one wicket down.
"We had a little wobble in the middle, but Chris Busby, reliable as ever with forty-seven, was the man for the occasion, as he marshalled the tail to take our total to within sight of two hundred. We reckoned that we should have scored in excess of two hundred, but we were confident that our bowlers, who have been in good form this season could do the business, and this proved to be the case.
"James Jackson with two wickets and Josh Dailly with three, did the early damage, and then Keith Wilson bowled superbly to claim 3 for 10 in ten. John Busby impressed as a stand-in skipper, and played his part as a bowler by taking a brace.
"Our fielding was of a high standard, and this win should lift us in to the top half of the Section 3 table," ended Andy.

SECONDS WIN

The 2nd XI recorded their third win from five outings in Division 2 Section 3 when they defeated Millpark by thirty-nine runs.
Taking first knock on a poor wicket at Gilford, Templepatrick II posted 119 in their forty-five overs. John Busby made a massive contribution with 50, with support from Jay Hunter (17) and David Gibson (10).
Stephen Boyd was the star bowler with four wickets, with the others being shared by Jordan Carlisle, Josh Johnston and John Busby.
This win keeps Brian Scroggie's lads in the promotion challenge, and they are also looking forward to their Intermediate Cup semi-final clash with Laurelvale at The Cloughan, but they will have to battle without skipper Scroggie who is on holiday.
