PARKVIEW Ladies earned a trip to Dublin when they defeated Coleraine in the Irish Junior Cup.
The first round tie proved to be a thriller at Foundry Lane, where each side led at some stage before Susie Weir's girls advanced to the second round by the odd goal in five.

The reward is an away tie in the second round in Dublin where Clontarf
will provide the opposition on November 21.

On paper, taking on Coleraine for the second week in succession should have posed few problems after having won the first encounter 4-0, but player/coach Denise Doherty had to make wholesale changes with Joy Hargie, Claire Dundee, Ruth Hughes and Gail Nicholson unavailable.

In a reshuffled defence Doherty came in at sweeper, with Laura Chalmers switching to left back, while Emma Stubbs and Lynne Stephens completed the back four that gave goalkeeper Sharon Gaffney sound protection.

Kerrie Erskine has established herself in the senior panel this season, and picked up her first Girl of the Game award with an industrious display in midfield alongside Karen Barr, Angela Halaseh and team captain Susie Weir, while the attacking duties were in the hands of Nikki Turkington and Zoe Purdy, with Natasha McWilliams and Nicola Stewart starting on the bench.

Parkview had the better of the opening exchanges but fell behind to a breakaway goal, when the Coleraine left winger planted the ball in to the bottom corner of the net.

Five minutes later the scores were level again when Turkington converted Halaseh's long corner, and by half time the locals had forged ahead through Barr, following a penalty corner routine involving Weir and Doherty.

During the third quarter the home defence was tested on several occasions, and eventually the visitors levelled the scores, again from open play. Further pressure produced several goalmouth melees, in one of which Weir made a crucial goal-line clearance.

Having weathered the storm the Doagh girls returned to the attack, and when an Erskine shot was stopped by a defender's foot, a penalty flick was awarded but the agile keeper pulled off a stunning low save to deny Purdy.

Rather against the run of play Parkview grabbed the winner two minutes from time, when Doherty tucked the ball in to the net after Barr's initial effort from a penalty corner had been parried by the goalie.

Parkview Ladies panel: S Gaffney, D Doherty, L Chalmers, L Stephens, E Stubbs, K Erskine, K Barr, S Weir (C), A Halaseh, N Turkington, Z Purdy, N Stewart, N McWilliams.

This weekend Parkview travel to Greenisland Ladies for what should be a keenly contested Senior League Section 2 local derby.
