A SPARKLING innings by Robert Smith ensured that Templepatrick cruised to a massive win by one hundred and six runs against Dungannon on Saturday afternoon.
The young Ballyclare High School student wielded the willow in style, hitting no fewer than 19x4s and 4x6s on his way to a record breaking 148, surpassing the previous First XI record of 123 held by current skipper Artie Campbell.

After winning the toss Campbell elected to take first knock, and after a shaky start in which they lost Colin Morrow and Richard Greer cheaply, they posted a challenging 295 for 9 in their fifty overs.

Obviously Smith was the star of the show, but he received sound support from James Jackson (35), Neil Reynolds (28 not out), Artie Campbell (20) and Paddy Lutton (20).

Chris Busby's accurate line and length bowling earned him top bowling honours with 4 for 42. Smith demonstrated his all rounder capabilities when he returned 2 for 18, while Gareth Boyd, Josh Dailly and James Jackson each claimed one scalp.

Richard Greer was once again in fine form behind the stumps where he took two catches, and had three stumpings, as Dungannon were dismissed for 189 in this Division 1 Section 3 fixture.

Commenting, skipper Artie Campbell said, "When I won the toss I had no hesitation in opting to bat first on a good wicket, and the lads responded by putting runs on the board. Robert Smith dominated the innings with a superb innings of 148 which broke the previous record held by myself.

"He smashed the ball all round Dungannon Park, and spoiled the figures of several bowlers, and I would have liked to have seen him pass 150. Robert can also be relied upon to get vital wickets, and he chipped in with couple, and then caused a run-out when he delivered the ball from the boundary straight over the stumps into the hands of Richard Greer.

"Paddy Lutton opened the batting and contributed twenty, I managed the same score, while James Jackson was second highest with 35. Neil Reynolds was still there at the end with a patient undefeated 28, to see us set them 296 to win.

"With a lightning fast outfield this was not an impossible task, but we kept taking wickets, and by the halfway stage the balance had tipped in our favour, and we eventually wrapped up the points with overs and plenty of runs to spare.

"That was our fourth consecutive win, and I can't recall a better start to the season, so I will be asking the players to focus on each match in order to build upon this excellent start," ended Artie.
