VACANT office space in Ballyclare's Town Hall is to be leased to an Estate Agent firm, local councillors have agreed.
The ground floor office at the building has been lying empty for more than a year after the previous tenants quit over noise nuisance coming from dance groups using an upstairs room of the property.
Recently, three applicants expressed interest in wanting to lease the commercial space - a political party, an estate agency and a church group.
But the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI), who provided funding for an upgrade of the building in 2003, said none of the applicants met the "tradeable services" criteria.
Mayfair Estate Agency Group appealed the decision to council who awaited a response on the matter from the Department. In a letter sent to the DETI, council said it would "treat the estate agency applicant as a tradeable service unless we receive clear and definite instruction from the Department that we should not do so by Monday 22 October."
The council did not receive any advice from the DETI and members recommended the offices at the Town Hall be leased to the estate agency.
