IF YOU enjoy traditional hymn singing, Ballynure Methodist Church is the place to be this evening (Thursday).
Tonight will see the last in a successful monthly series of three evenings of hymn singing, with members of the congregation given an opportunity to request their own favourites.
The series was the brain child of the organist and choir director a
t the church, Sheelagh Greer, who recognised the love which people continue to hold for traditional church music. Sheelagh will lead and encourage the congregational singing.
The first evening saw people representing many churches from the extended community packed into the church. The guest organist was 25-year-old Mark McGrath, who made his organ debut at the age of seven.
Mark accompanied the hymn-singing as well as treating everyone to some wonderful organ solos. The tenor soloist was Dr Sunil Paulraj, an Indian doctor living and working In Belfast. Together with Sheelagh, a mezzo-soprano, they sang the duet, 'The Lord's Prayer'.
Minister of the church, Rev Tommy Stevenson, concluded the evening with his own hymn choice, about which he spoke briefly.
Sunil, Sheelagh and Mark will be joined on this final evening by Phyllis Boyd, conductor of Ballyclare Male Choir. With Christmas approaching, the 8 p.m. event will also include a special carol section.
