THE Wings Appeal Organiser with the Carrickfergus Branch of the RAF Association has thanked the people of Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus for their generous donations to this year’s Wings Appeal.

Wing Commander Noel Williams revealed this week that local people have helped the Association raise £35,000 this year - £2,500 more than in 2011.

“I want to thank the very generous people who helped us surpass last year’s total. To raise £35,000 in these very tough financial times is outstanding. It will help us to continue to play a vital role in providing welfare support and relief for a large number of veterans who served in the RAF, and their families,” he said.

Thanking the many businesses, churches and schools who support the Wings Appeal, the Wing Commander added: “I want to express my sincere thanks to the people who appreciate what our servicemen and women do on their behalf, and give so kindly so that they, in turn, can be cared for in their hour of need.

“It would be entirely remiss of me not to thank all those outlets that permit us to ‘set up camp’ in their store, garage and those shops, pubs and clubs that permit us to have a collecting tin on their counter throughout the entire year.”
