Glengormley residents have hit out at what they claim to be “paramilitary flags” being flown in the town centre.

Kevin Henderson from Farmley contacted the Times claiming that “paramilitary flags” were among those erected in the town centre on Tuesday evening (June 19).

“Flags in general, and the arch, are not a good image for the town,” he said.

“It’s meant to be a shared community and it’s not really looking like a shared community at the minute.

“I thought that after the uproar there was over the republican flags at Easter something would have been worked out and we wouldn’t be in this situation,” he commented.

Another Glengormley man added: “YCV flags are paramilitary and are illegal and should not be flown anywhere.”
