Stunning art in a variety of media on show at Merville House

THE Arts Society of Ulster’s (ASU) major annual exhibition opens this week at the historic Merville House in Merville Garden Village.

The exhibition will showcase work never before seen in the area, in a wide variety of media from oils to ceramics and sculpture.

The Arts Society of Ulster Trust, formerly known as the Royal Ulster Academy Association, has been holding annual exhibitions, lectures and courses since 1997. The Society currently has around 130 members, a large proportion of whom are professional and semi-professional artists who cover an interesting spectrum of traditional and contemporary works in a variety of styles and media. All members are elected to the Society on the basis of their skills as artists.

As well as holding an annual exhibition, the ASU are active in promoting high standards amongst art students and every year present a school leaver and graduate award. These awards will also be part of the exhibition at Merville House.

The exhibition is due to open at Merville House this evening, Thursday, April 5, with an invitation only Preview Night. Thereafter, the opening hours to members of the public are Good Friday, April 6, 10am to 8pm; Saturday, April 7, 10am to 5pm; Closed on Easter Sunday, April 8; Easter Monday, April 9, 10am to 8pm; Easter Tuesday, April 10, 10am to 8pm; Wednesday, April 11, Thursday, April 12 and Friday, April 13, 10am to 8pm; Saturday, April 14, 10am to 5pm; Sunday, April 15, 10am to 5.15pm.
