POLICE have said an “elaborate hoax” closed the motorway and part of the Shore Road during a security alert on Tuesday night (February 26).

The suspect device, it’s believed, was found in the underpass at Hazelbank Park just after 7.30pm.

Police closed the Shore Road between the Doagh Road and Hazelbank as well as the M5 in both directions while army bomb experts examined the object.

Roads were reopened to traffic around 1.30pm on Wednesday morning.
