Gas mains work on Shore Road

PHOENIX Gas is planning to carry out mains diversion work on the A2 Shore Road at Whiteabbey next month, it has been confirmed.

In a response to Alliance councillor Tom Campbell, who asked the company for details of planned works in the area, Phoenix revealed that it is hoping to carry out maintenance near the Glenville Road junction from March 31, and that traffic management systems will be in place while the work is carried out.

However, with the major A2 widening project between Jordanstown and Greenisland scheduled to start next month, a Phoenix spokesman said that a definite date for the start of the mains diversion work has yet to be finalised.

“We can confirm that essential gas network maintenance is planned to take place at the Shore Road.

“We are awaiting confirmation from the Department for Regional Development as to when this work will be allowed to begin and under what conditions,” he told the Times.

The company’s engineering department confirmed that it has no plans to carry out mains laying work within Whiteabbey village itself.
