Merville event proves a seasonal smash

MERVILLE House was transformed into a traditional Christmas village recently for an event hosted by the Rathcoole Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership.

Traditionally dressed carol singers from St Comgall’s Church of Ireland greeted the more than 250 visitors on their arrival and got everyone into the Christmas spirit whilst the Rathcoole Creative Memories group took part in festive story-telling.

Children were amazed by the snow scene which included waterfalls, penguins and seals, transporting them to the North Pole.

To warm up from the frosty fun, tea and traditional Christmas mince pies were enjoyed by the adults whilst Christmas crafts took place.

Families visited the grotto to speak to Santa and there was an additional surprise for the children as they left the house; Prancer the reindeer was waiting with a sleigh to take Santa home.

Sara Barkley, Neighbourhood Renewal Officer, commented: “The event was a massive success with everyone enjoying visiting the Christmas Village. I would like to thank all of the volunteers who gave up so much of their time to make this a cracking event.”
