Minute’s silence for US tragedy

Councillors held a minute’s silence to pray for the families and victims of the Sandy Hook massacre in America.

On Friday a lone gunman shot dead 20 school children and seven adults in the elementary school in Newtown Connecticut.

20-year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother before embarking on a shooting spree killing children, some as young as six before turning a gun on himself.

At Monday night’s council meeting, following his Bible reading and prayer, councillor Ken Robinson asked the pastor AJ Martin to lead a minute’s silence ahead of the meeting.

He said: “I think it would be appropriate we pray for those families who have been left devastated by this tragedy.”
