MLA’s question sparks row

Paula Bradley MLA

NORTH Belfast MLA Paula Bradley has sparked a row with a public service union after asking for a religious breakdown of Housing Executive staff working in the constituency.

The DUP member tabled an Assembly question last week on the number of people employed in the North Belfast District Office and their religion.

Union NIPSA has warned that the disclosure of the information could leave staff vulnerable to attacks during the course of their work.

A DUP spokesman said it was common practice for Assembly members to submit questions “about a wide range of issues including the breakdown of employees within public bodies”.

“No-one should draw any inference simply from the tabling of a question seeking information,” he added.
