New grave space identified

THE COUNCIL has identified space for over 1,000 graves in and around Carnmoney Cemetery.

At the latest Planning and Consultation Committee meeting, councillors approved funding for removing trees in the cemetery which will provide another 421 graves.

In council owned land on the Prince Charles Way/Church Road and O’Neill Road area councillor approved investigating land which has the potential to create another 657 graves.

Councillor recently visited the locations to inspect the proposed sites, Alderman Paul Girvan said the exercise was “helpful”.

Last year the council performed a u-turn on a decision to use land in the Valley Park after a public backlash.
