NI WATER has said water mains rehabilitation work across Newtownabbey is progressing well and should finish on schedule.

And the service provider has said it is replacing equipment, not installing domestic water meters as had been rumoured.

NI Water is currently working in various locations throughout the borough on a multi-million pound infrastructure improvement scheme.

Water mains rehabilitation works are currently ongoing in the Collinbridge, Rathfern and Merville Garden Village areas with planned completion dates in early summer.

The installation of a new watermain along the Carnmoney Road is also progressing as scheduled and is expected to finish in March.

A spokeswoman said: “Preliminary works are due to start on the Ballyclare Road in February with the Lower Doagh Road - from Whiteabbey Hospital to Shore Road - to start in March/April. Rehabilitation work within the Rathcoole area is currently ongoing and will continue progressively throughout the area over the coming 12 months.

“NI Water is replacing individual external service boxes, not installing water meters. Only those properties or commercial businesses which are currently metered will have their meter replaced or refitted.”
