Pupils get top tips from hotel chefs

Ballyclare Secondary School’s Key Stage 4 Occupational Studies class has formed a mentoring partnership with chefs at the Templeton Hotel.

Occupational Studies is a diverse course covering everything from cooking to carpentry, and pupils in the Food Preparation class are benefitting from expert tuition from professional chefs at the Templepatrick hotel, under the guidance of Head Chef, Ivan O’Neill.

As part of the partnership programme to promote professionalism, Mr O’Neill kindly organised for Lynas Foods to sponsor the Occupational Studies class with a set of chefs’ jackets.

“The programme has been very successful,” a school spokesperson commented. “So far the pupils have been given a tour of the hotel, practical demonstrations by chefs Daniel Boyle and David Beggs and a masterclass in knife skills by Ivan himself. It is hoped this partnership will continue, and who knows, we could be training the next new Master Chef right here in Ballyclare.”
