A GROUP of local charity fundraisers have handed over a cheque for £216 to Action Cancer.

The money was raised by Whiteabbey Action Cancer Group at a recent Swimathon event held at the Valley Leisure Centre.

The group, which has been fundraising for the charity for almost 40 years, is one of the longest standing Action Cancer Groups. Members also recently donated a separate cheque to the charity for £6,000.

Glenn Oakes, Group Support and Development Officer for the charity, paid tribute to the group’s members.

“The commitment and dedication of our Whiteabbey Group and the generosity of people living in the area in supporting Action Cancer’s work over the years has been outstanding. We are very grateful to those who participated in the Swimathon and the proceeds will be used wisely to advance our range of services,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Whiteabbey Action Cancer Group is on the look-out for new members to join them in their fundraising activities.
