THIS week's planned meeting between local politicians and the Minister for Regional Development to discuss the proposed year-long closure of the Hightown Road bridge had to be postponed.
The showdown at Stormont, which was due to take place on Tuesday, was put on hold following the death of veteran republican Martin Meehan at the weekend.
With Mr Meehan's funeral taking place on Tuesday, the meeting with Sinn Fein Minister Conor M
urphy had to be put off. It is now scheduled to take place on November 13.
Meanwhile, local councillors have again raised concerns over the proposed 12-month closure of the road whilst M2 widening and bridge replacement works are carried out.
Addressing Roads Service officials at the council's monthly Planning Committee meeting on Monday evening, several councillors echoed points raised by residents and politicians at the recent public meeting at St Enda's GAC.
Members raised concerns over the lack of consultation prior to last month's road closure, fears over potential delays to emergency response vehicles while traffic is diverted to an already congested Sandyknowes and the need for a temporary bridge to be erected on the route.
The Mayor, alderman Nigel Hamilton, informed the Roads Service officials that the road closure is having "a very serious negative impact" on residents and businesses in the Glengormley area.
