Allowing travellers at Whitehouse 'would be a disaster'
AS Chairman of the Abbey Historical Society I feel I have to write regarding the headline "Whitehouse is 'perfect' for travellers" in last week's Newtownabbey Times.
Councillor John Scott's suggestion is absolutely ridiculous and outrageous. Does Councillor Scott not know the historical significance of the White House and Gideon's Green?
It is an area of historical importance which is about to be developed as part of the William Trail and the restoration of the White House.
We all know the mess the Loughshore Park at Jordanstown was left in last summer after the travellers left.
I was born and reared along the shoreline and from White House to Jordanstown it attracts locals and visitors from all parts because of its beauty.
Every day and evening, summer and winter, it is always packed and if these people were allowed to come and dwell there it would be a disaster.
I must add that Newtownabbey Borough Council does a great job in maintaining it.
Councillor Scott must have no grasp of our heritage in Whitehouse.
