My grandfather, Thomas Stewart, was born at Woodburn,Carrickfergus, on 24th January 1890 to parents Thomas Stewart(occupation mason)and Jane Stewart (nee Brennan) and there was a Mary Bell present at his birth.
He later lived at 17 Abbey Gardens, Whiteabbey, before migrating to Australia in 1914 at the age of 24. His mother, Jane Brennan, died when he was young and his father remarried.
I know my mother used to write to her grandmother "Mary" (I assume this was my grandfather's stepmother) when she was younger, as I have a letter she received from this grandmother sent from the 17 Abbey Gardens address.
There is also a Mrs B Clarke of the same address, whom mum used to write to and was one of her father's relatives - perhaps a sister. My grandfather had a sister Isabel who married around 1934 as I have a photo of her wedding, which also includes a lady called Ellie, and men whose names are not mentioned.
There was also mention of mum's cousin Ethel Clarke being married around the same time as Isabel. No-one seems to know who the rest of his family were and because my mother Mary Cassidy (nee Stewart) passed on last year, I can't ask her about them either.
My grandfather Thomas Stewart married Mary Ann (nee Stewart) at Ormeau in Queensland Australia on 2nd Feb 1921. My mother's own mother (Mary Ann) died in 1927 when mum was only five and her father remarried a number of years later to a woman named Henriette Kunde. He was married to her at the time the wedding photo of Isabel was sent to my mother.
