On a Monday night, children from various areas aged between 5 and 13 go to the Leigh Ann Eppleston School of Dance in the Ballyduff Youth Centre, which includes children from Ballyduff. After the class is finished the children like to play in the park beside the youth centre.
Three weeks ago the children entered the park and were playing when other children from Ballyduff entered and started to bully the children attending the dance class, calling them names, including calling my daughter fat, and refusing to let them on
the swings and slides etc. This was due to the fact that they "did not live there, so could not use the playground".
When I went over to see what was going on, the abuse I received was disgusting. Everything came to a head on Monday 16th June when the children entered the playground and there were other kids in the playground.
Some girls came up and hit my daughter and her friend. My daughter said that she would not let the girl hit her and then the older girl slapped my daughter hard across the face, which made her cry. When I went over to them, the abuse I received was disgusting.
Later on, the dance teacher, another mother and I were standing talking when the children from Ballyduff started shouting abuse and made rude gestures at all of us.
As a result of this, the teacher is thinking of moving the dance class. It is sad for the children from Ballyduff who attend the class, but the verbal and physical abuse is in no way acceptable, and heaps shame on the residents of Ballyduff that children from the area would behave in such a terrible manner.
