I AM calling upon Newtownabbey Borough Council to have the toilets and grounds of Hazelbank Park staffed by wardens as a matter of extreme urgency.
Security personnel should be employed in the toilets where sexual acts are taking place, not only in the cubicles, but also in the open area.
My fear is that some child is going to be seriously sexually injured if immediate action is not taken.
A few months ago a barrier was erected and closed at night, but this practice has fallen by the wayside and cars are cruising the area 24 hours a day.
The council is aware of the seriousness of this problem and has a committee looking at what can be done about it. I urge that committee to take action now.
The police are also well informed about the situation but cannot patrol 24 hours a day.
The council should employ staff to carry out these duties immediately. We cannot afford to lose this park to a bunch of perverts who think they can do whatever they like.
