- As a regular walker along the shoreline, and as a ratepayer, I was astounded to discover through your paper last week that the unsightly mound I can see from the path at Gideon's Green, at the rear of 67 Whitehouse Park, is there through an unauthorised infill and that £15,000 has been paid by the Council on legal fees in dealing with the legal wrangle over this.
I had no idea the eyesore was on Council land and assumed it was part of a garden in which the owner had started a project too big to complete.
After reading your article, I feel the question must now be asked as to why it is taking so long to resolve this trespass on Council land and why it has taken so much of our rates to get the offending individual to comply with the law.
He, not us ratepayers, should bear the cost of these legal fees. I am somewhat surprised that it would appear some Councillors actually support this individual and I also think that these matters should be examined by the Ombudsman.
