BALLYCLARE will come alive this week with an action-packed May Fair programme for all the family to enjoy.
The event kicks off on Tuesday, May 22 when the Main Street will be closed off for the horse trading fair and visitors can get a bargain from the market stalls around the town. The day will be crammed with lots of exciting events such as Hugo Duncan’s live concert broadcast, children’s Talent Show and the May Fair’s first ever Autotest night.
For the first time ever, visitors to the fair will be able to gather at Woodsides car park and witness some of Ireland’s top drivers challenge each other in a series of scary tricks and manoeuvres. The usual activities of pie making, bouncy castles, face painting and amusements will also be on offer to ensure there is something for everyone.
After the success of last year’s Comedy Night, May McFettridge and Gene Fitzpatrick are guaranteed to have everyone rolling the aisles of the town hall on Friday, May 25.
Saturday 26 is sure to be a crowd pleaser with the ‘Pirates and Princesses’ themed parade, arts workshops, kids’ party and Mr Hullaballoo telling tales of Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty. The toe-tapping sounds of buskers will fill the air around the town as they compete for the £1,000 prize fund in the Big Busking Bonanza. In the evening, the Phat Katz will provide a free concert at Sixmile Leisure Centre before an amazing fireworks display at Dixon Park.
There will be sporting events aplenty throughout the week, with the It’s a Knockout, soccer competition, dance competition and cricket blitz. Quiz nights, a talk on tracing your family history and the annual pet show will also be in the mix.
There are lots of reasons to come to the May Fair this year - make a day of it and treat the family.
