FOLLOWING the sell-out success of their production of Calamity Jane last year, Fortwilliam Musical Society Youth Group will return to The Courtyard Theatre, Ballyearl this spring with their production of the popular Cole Porter musical Anything Goes.
The group, which boasts more than 100 members from Newtownabbey, north Belfast and beyond, has enjoyed a successful few years, having celebrated their 20th anniversary two years ago with a special concert in Theatre at The Mill, followed by their lively production of Calamity Jane.
“The group is going from strength to strength,” said co-ordinator Barry O’Kelly. “Our numbers are growing each year. The talent is unbelievable and we are so proud to work with such an amazing group of young people.”
The show will take place at The Courtyard Theatre from April 24 - 27, including a matinee performance on the 27th.
“Last year we had a huge waiting list for tickets and many people didn’t get to see the show, so we hope that having a matinee will make sure everyone can come,” said Emma Phoenix-Kelly, who is co-directing the show along with other members of the youth team, all of whom are graduates and former performers from the youth group.
“The children are working so hard to get the show ready for the stage in two months time, learning their songs, dialogue and of course, some wonderful tap routines, taught by Amy Davis and Rebecca Fleming, who are also former members of the group,” Emma added.
“We are so proud to be part of this wonderful cross-community group which offers so much to the local area, and we are always so grateful to have such strong support from our audience.
“Without our local audience, our group just couldn’t do what we do, especially in today’s uncertain financial climate.”
Featuring popular Cole Porter melodies such as ‘I Get a Kick Out of You’, ‘De-Lovely’, and the famous title tune ‘Anything Goes’, ably taught to the group by their new musical director Colm McGarvey, this highly popular and critically acclaimed group are sure to delight audiences of all ages.
