FORTWILLIAM Musical Society (FMS) Youth Group are putting the finishing touches to their upcoming production of Anything Goes.

The 100-strong group of young performers from Newtownabbey, north Belfast and beyond are excited to be performing at The Courtyard Theatre, Ballyearl from Wednesday 24 to Saturday 27 April. And the cast and crew are hoping that opening night will be a complete sell-out, as all profits from the performance are being donated to a very worthy cause.

The group, made up of talented young actors, singers and dancers, has been performing to packed houses at theatres for over 20 years, and they hope their spring production of Cole Porter’s Anything Goes will prove equally successful.

All profits from the Wednesday evening (April 24) performance - a special charity night - will go to supporting children in Ghana.

The co-founder of FMS Youth Group, north Belfast woman Joanne Laverty, has been working with two schools in Ghana over the last 18 months - The Royal Academy of Morals in Darkuman on the outskirts of Accra, and Dombineh Memorial Complex in Kasoa. Money raised so far has been used to buy text books for the schools and to fund some children so that they are able to attend school.

Back in January, just before Joanne was heading back to Ghana, FMS Youth Group were due to put on a fundraising concert, but sadly it had to be called off at the last minute due to the heavy snow.

“When we had to cancel the concert it was very disappointing, but straightaway Chairman Barry O’Kelly offered me their opening performance of Anything Goes instead,” Joanne explained. “I was absolutely delighted and I was sure that the snow would be gone by then, but now I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

“I am now getting the opportunity to combine two groups of amazing young people as Fortwilliam Musical Society Youth Group are very generously donating all the profits of their opening performance of Anything Goes to the projects for young people that I have set up with the schools in Ghana.”

Tickets for Anything Goes are priced from £10 and are available from the box office on 028 9034 0202 or online at www.thecourtyardtheatre.com
