CLIENTS at The Base drop-in facility in Merville House showed off their artistic talents at a special exhibition recently.

As part of a new partnership project with the Northern Trust’s Day Opportunities programme, Arts Care artist in residence, Ciara O’Malley has been working with clients at The Base over the past few months.

From July to November Ciara worked on a weekly basis with the Day Opportunities clients - adults with learning difficulties - and helped them get in touch with their creative sides by trying out different styles of painting and drawing.

“The clients led the whole process from the initial ideas, to creating the content, through to the development of the finished pieces. They decided on water as their theme; this was due to their proximity to the shore at Belfast Lough. They began by working through a process of taking photographs, drawing and painting,” she explained.

The Day Opportunities clients held an exhibition of their work in Merville House on Tuesday, November 22.
