Ballyclare pupils hit the right notes at festival

BALLYCLARE Primary School’s young singers and musicians are celebrating after enjoying considerable success at Ballyclare Music Festival.

In the Violin Ensemble class, Emma Clarke, Erin McWilliam and Megan Wilson won first place, receiving the Festival Shield, while Emma Doak, Alana Kinkaid, Ellie Archibald and Stefan Ross also performed well.

In the Solo Violin classes there were good performances from Emma Clarke, Megan Wilson, Kai-Lin McCullough (P5) who earned a creditable third place, and Erin McWilliam (P7) who took second place.

In the Piano class Emma Clarke was very successful and gained first place, winning the Kennedy Challenge Cup. She was also crowned Best Overall Pianist, receiving the Patricia Hughes Memorial Cup.

The school orchestra was on fine form, winning the McRoberts Shield for first place. They were awarded a distinction for their two pieces and the adjudicator commented that the standard they are playing at is as good as a post-primary orchestra.

The final success came from the Sparklers Choir (P5-7) who were awarded a distinction and came joint first. The choir managed to hold on to first place for the second year in a row, winning the McKinstry Cup.
