WORLD famous, internationally acclaimed and best-selling author Colin Bateman stopped in at Glengormley Integrated Primary School (GIPS), this week to chat about his career as a crime fiction and children’s writer.

The Bangor man tours schools across the country to talk about the joy he derives from reading and writing, while impressing children with his wonderful sense of humour along on the way.

Children from GIPS’ P6 and P7 classes heard how the former journalist developed a passion for reading and writing from a young age and how he beat the odds to become the first author in over a decade to be published from the HarperCollins’ slush pile.

“I had been rejected everywhere and then my girlfriend told me to just send the book to the biggest publisher in the world. And then one day some beleaguered student on work experience picked up my book from a pile of thousands and the rest, as they say, is history,” he said.
