Austen's women brought to life on stage

ON MONDAY, January 18 at 8pm, the Cultural Services Section of Antrim Borough Council continue their off-site programme of events with Theatre Tours International/ Guy Masterson's production of Austen's Women, which is being held in the Dunsilly Hotel.

A selection of the most rewarding and exciting moments in the works of Jane Austen, Austen's Women brings to the stage the many beautifully observed women and heroines throughout her canon.

From scenes of high comedy to moments of pathos and loneliness, Austen's creations are painted with unnerving accuracy.

A journey into the "Two Inches of Ivory" with Lizzy Bennet, Emma Woodhouse, Anne Elliot, the Dashwood Sisters and many more, as they fall in and out of love, make friends and alienate others, commit notorious improprieties and learn important life lessons.

In a bold revisiting, using nothing but the words of Austen herself, these female characters are brilliantly illuminated. Taken out of context, Austen’s women speak volumes for their sex and their standing constrained by the stringent societal code of their time. Directed by Guy Masterson and starring Rebecca Vaughan, this production is a must for every Jane Austen fan.

Austen’s Women will be at the Dunsilly Hotel (formerly The Comfort Hotel), Antrim, on Monday, January 18 at 8pm. Seating will be unreserved and tickets cost 10/ 8 concession and are available from the Cultural Services Section on 028 9448 1338.
