Wood work lesson at the Old Courthouse
THE Old Courthouse's auditorium will be transformed into a gallery this month as the Cultural Services Section of Antrim Borough Council presents an exhibition of craft entitled The Woodsmith by Danish artist Hans-Henning Pedersen.
Hans turns large scale, paper thin wooden vessels using beech and ash found locally on the island of Bornholm where he lives and works.
He makes unique pieces of timeless beauty, working with the wood grain and the imperfections of the material to enhance the beauty of nature.
The bowls he creates are clean, simple forms so that the grain and the beauty of the wood shine through. Using wood as the medium for this work was his natural choice for this artist who has been working as a carpenter, cabinetmaker and wood turner since 1975.
Hans will give an illustrated Gallery Talk in the Auditorium of The Old Courthouse Antrim on Wednesday, August 18 at 7pm. Admission is free, but places must be booked in advance by calling 028 9448 1338.
The Woodsmith will be on show in the auditorium of The Old Courthouse, Antrim from Monday, August 16 to Friday, September 3 daily. The exhibition will be open on Monday to Friday from 9am to 5.30pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 3pm. Admission is free.
This exhibition is presented in association with flow gallery, London, and is part of Craft NI’s August Craft Month initiative.
