A YOUNG Glengormley gymnast who has overcome cystic fibrosis to excel at her chosen sport has spoken of her delight after receiving a conditional offer to carry the Olympic flame next summer.

Teenager Holly Hamill will be one of 8,000 “inspiring people” - including others from Northern Ireland and across the UK - to actively take part in the 70-day pre-Olympic torch relay.

The torch will tour all four regions of the UK and visit Dublin ahead of the London Games, which are scheduled to start next July.

Holly, 17, was nominated by her family and coach after winning four gold apparatus medals at the Rhythmic British Championships earlier this year.

Speaking after being informed that she had made it through the nomination process, Holly said: “It is amazing to be part of this - I just hope I don’t fall over. The feeling should be epic.”
