FINAL preparations are being made for the Ballyhenry Holiday Club, which will be running this year in Ballyhenry Presbyterian Church, from Monday 13 to Friday 17 August.
The Holiday Club is open to all children in the local community who have been in P1 through to those leaving P7. Activities begin each evening at 6.30pm and run through to 8.15pm.
A team of over 30 volunteers have been working over the past few months in preparation for this year’s event. The theme for the week is ‘Going for Gold’ - a Bible-based programme suitable for children of all ages and backgrounds.
Activities will include singing, games, crafts, Bible stories, drama and puppets. Admission is free, but for registration purposes children must be left off by a parent/guardian on the first night of attendance.
On Saturday, August 18 the church will be hosting its annual Meet the Neighbours Day, from 2pm to 4.30pm.
Lots of fun things have been lined up for the event including a bouncy castle, penalty shoot-out, puppets, crafts, stuffed toy tea party, face painting, live band and BBQ. An added attraction this year will be a ‘Petting Farm’ where children will be able to stroke and hold baby pigs and goats.
Several organisations working within the local community will also be coming along, including the Gis a Hug Foundation and representatives of the emergency services. The Teen Challenge Bus will also be offering advice and information to young people and parents on issues relating to drug abuse.
The events, which are part of Ballyhenry Presbyterian Church’s ongoing community programme, are all free and open to everyone.
Looking forward to the week, Rev Niall Lockhart, Minister of the Ballyhenry church, commented: “The Olympics have reminded us all of what it is to be part of something that is big and exciting. As a Christian church we are excited about the good news that we have to share with friends and neighbours across our local community. We are really looking forward to our Holiday Club and Meet the Neighbours and assure all who come of a warm welcome.”
