RUNNING the London Marathon will be a dream come true for Glengormley man Martin McCready.

Martin has stepped up his training in a bid to complete the 26.2 mile route.

He knows from previous experience that a rigorous regime is necessary in order to reach his peak fitness as he took part in the New York Marathon in November 2011.

Martin said: “I have watched the London Marathon many times over the years and I’ve always dreamt of running it someday. I ran the New York Marathon in November 2011.

“To now run London as well will be an amazing opportunity, and one that I won’t forget. I am particularly looking forward to running past Tower Bridge, the Cutty Sark, Canary Wharf and the London Eye as well as seeing Big Ben and Buckingham Palace en route.

“I will be hoping the crowds will be able to drag an extra five or ten per cent out of me to enable me to beat my personal best which is 3.50.51.”

He will be supported in his training and preparations for the big day, April 21, by his employer Chain Reaction Cycles.

Martin, who suffers from a hearing impairment, will be fund-raising for the Action on Hearing Loss charity.

The charity’s fund-raising executive Nuala Muldoon, who is also from Glengormley, will be among the marathon runners in London.

She added: “We are delighted that Martin has chosen to run for us.

“Doing a full marathon is a big challenge, but we know he is up to the job and will set a great time on the day.”
