A TEACHER from Glengormley is about to deliver a lesson in commitment as he tackles not one, but three, marathons in support of charity - and all within the space of just five weeks!

Julian McGrath, a teacher at Aquinas Grammar School in Belfast, is attempting his hat-trick of marathons across the capital cities of London, Belfast and Edinburgh in aid of Friends of the Cancer Centre and Pancreatic Cancer UK.

The father of three children - Luke, aged 7, Leah, 4, and baby Toby - ran his first marathon last year and was immediately hooked on his new hobby.

He then ran a second marathon to raise funds for his local primary school, but the inspiration to tackle three gruelling races in five weeks stemmed out of tragic personal family experience.

Julian said: “I had heard the survival rate is very low - at around 3 per cent for pancreatic cancer sufferers that survive their disease beyond five years, but it wasn’t until my aunt was diagnosed with the disease in late 2009 that the reality of this statistic really hit home.”
