CARNMONEY man Jonathan Lloyd celebrated being named the UK’s top Paint Technician at the Bodyshop Awards on September 23.
The 25-year-old said he never expected to bring home the UK Paint Technician of the Year award.
He said: “No way did I expect it. The awards were a black tie event and I was just delighted to have been nominated, but to win was something else.
“Especially with the three other nominees being 10 or 15 years older than me. It’s a good achievement and it is always great to be recognised for your work.”
Jonathan has been a paint technician ever since he left school at 16 to follow in his father, Harry’s footsteps.
As well as winning the UK’s top painter title he also bagged a bronze medal at the World Skills Awards in Japan and was named Young Painter of the Year in 2005 and 2006.
Jonathan, who works for Nigel Whann Accident and Repair Centre in Ballymena said he enjoyed his work.
He continued: “There is a lot of design work and effort goes into painting, it is very precise and requires a lot of patience. Mostly I would do accident repair work and that can be a lot of work and I enjoy it. It’s good to see a great finish on something you have worked hard on.”
The team at Nigel Whann Accident Repair Centre have congratulated Jonathan on his success.
