THE annual spring meeting of the Knockagh Area Women’s Institute took place in Templepatrick Church Hall on Thursday, April 25.

Guest speaker on the evening was television news editor Angelina Fusco from BBC NI.

She gave an interesting and entertaining talk to the members and also took the time out to visit the competition hall and chat will those at the event.

Supper, of the usual high standard, was prepared by the Ballyclare, Glengormley and Templepatrick groups and the flowers were prepared by the Ben Madigan group.

The awards presented were as follows: area quiz was won by Glengormley and the bowls was won by Ballyclare.

The Lennon Cup for Novice Baking was won by Greta Crawford from Mossley; the Blossom Beattie Cup for Open Baking was won by Jennifer Johnston from Muckamore; the Elizabeth Grey Cup for Novice Craft was won by Ruth Wilson from Muckamore; the McBride Cup for Experienced Craft was won by Diane Thompson; the Ashcroft Cup for Novice Floral Art was won by Geraldine Kane from Ben Madigan and Ashcroft Cup for Experienced Floral Art was won by H Kerr from Muckamore.

The Morton Trophy was won by Straid and the Knockagh Cup for best Institute was won by Ben Madigan.

Muckamore won the Scrapbook competition and two Drama award ribbons were presented to Ruth Blair, Jane Ferguson, Anne Grahame, Arlene Heaney, Diane Thompson and Margaret Stokes.

Following the conclusion of the meeting many members said they’d had an enjoyable evening and are looking forward to meeting again next year.
