LOCAL Zumba instructor Kylee McElkerney is no stranger to teaching people how to dance, but she recently had her skills tested to the limit when she took on the challenge of showing an American Football team some fancy footwork.
Despite being more used to scoring touchdowns than shaking and shimmying, The Belfast Trojans gamely danced their way through ‘Pause’ by Pitbull, performing their own unique take on the Zumba dance track, as Glengormley woman Kylee put them through their paces.
The video of the Trojans’ Zumba session, which can be viewed on YouTube, is being used to promote the forthcoming Zumbathon charity event taking place at The Odyssey Arena, Belfast on June 16.
The online video has already attracted thousands of views and is proving a hit with Zumba fans, proving that the popular fitness craze - the world’s largest and most successful dance-fitness programme - really can be done by anyone.
Kylee, who is one of the organisers of the Zumbathon event, commented: “Zumba really is for everyone - I have all ages, sizes, shapes and levels of fitness in my classes, so I would encourage anyone who has never tried Zumba before to get a ticket (for Zumbathon) and give it a go. I promise you will be hooked.”
The Trojans will be busy perfecting their dance moves over the next few weeks, as they will be special guests at the Odyssey fundraiser, which will also be attended by top New York Zumba instructor, Nick Logrea.
Tickets for the Zumbathon, priced £10 each, are available from the Odyssey Arena box office and www.ticketmaster.ie. Proceeds from the event will be donated to local charities the Friendship for Integrated Development Association (FIDA) and the Mark Pollock Trust.
