MARKS & Spencer is calling on the public to sign up for its big beach clean-up in Newtownabbey in April. And the clothes and food retailer is offering those people who sign up early for the events a money off voucher for its stores.
The retailer has teamed up with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) and the Canal & River Trust to organise the clean ups on beaches nationwide with events taking place at the Loughshore and Hazelbank.
The target is to clear more than 15 tonnes of litter and according to the MCS there are two pieces of litter on every metre of the coastline, most of it plastic.
The clean-up is part of the M&S Forever Fish campaign which is funded by the profits from the 5p carrier bag charged in foodhalls.
