THERE were special celebrations at Abbeyfield House in Merville Garden Village this week as resident Mabel Williams celebrated her 101st birthday.

Mabel was joined on Monday, September 12 by family, friends, Abbeyfield residents, staff and volunteers to mark the amazing milestone over a leisurely afternoon tea.

Mabel, who was born in North Belfast, moved to Merville Garden Village in 1948 with her mother. She has been a resident in the Abbeyfield House since 1995 and thoroughly enjoys her life there.

When asked what advice she would give to others on how to live a long life, without any hesitation she offered the following simple advice: “Keep learning, eat well and keep active.”
