NEWTOWNABBEY Times photographer Freddie Parkinson is in the frame for a spectacular award.

Our own happy snapper has helped launch the Northern Ireland Press Photographers’ Association annual awards in the Hudson Bar in Belfast.

The three-time award winner has said the awards help showcase the best photographic talent in Northern Ireland.

He said: “It is not all about winning, but rather getting a chance to see some of the best images from the past year on display.

“Here, in Northern Ireland, we have some of the most talented photographers and their work has been seen around the world.

“While it is always nice to win, I am just looking forward to seeing all the entries – I would hate to be a judge.”

The awards, sponsored by BT, are taking place in Zen in Alfred Street in Belfast on September 14.
