A GROUP of 30 local people joined with thousands across the globe at the weekend to help break the world record for the Biggest Ever Wine Tasting event.

The group descended on the Chimney Corner Hotel on Sunday (November 20) to take part in the synchronised wine tasting, with 20 other countries all over the world.

At precisely 11am GMT, thousands raised a glass in the event spearheaded by wine merchants, Vicomte Bernard de Romanet, to better the current record of 25,000 people. Although the exact numbers of how many took part is not yet known it is thought the record was successfully “smashed”.

Organiser of the Chimney Corner wine tasting, Brian Luke, said: “It all went very well, I was delighted with the number that showed up.

“We were aiming for 25 people and 30 showed up, which was great.”
