Straid Women’s Institute welcomes felt-maker to February meeting

STRAID WI members have enjoyed a busy programme of events during the past few months.

For the December meeting, members went to Larne Drama Club’s production of “A Christmas Carol” in the McNeill Theatre, Larne. After the show they had a very enjoyable supper in the Prom Cafe, which is part of Larne Leisure Centre.

The January meeting was cancelled due to the snow.

The February meeting was very well-attended and the speaker for the evening was Andrea McNeill, from Ballymena.

Andrea gave a demonstration on felt-making. She then created a picture of roosters using machine embroidery on the felt she had made.

Members were impressed by the fact that she could machine embroider and talk to the audience at the same time.

Helena Best proposed the vote of thanks.

The competition for the Craft Cup was won by Pat Patton.

Members had to knit a “fish supper vest”. These vests will be sent to babies in Africa.

The magazine prize for January was won by Jen Wilson and by Ann Magee, in February.

The ballot prize was won by Isobel English.
